The difference between an achiever and a looser depends on how fast he/she able to solve problems. And it is the fact of life that we cannot solve all problems by ourselves. It depends on the depth of our knowledge, the awareness towards the problem and especially an extensive network which we can utilize and is willing to support us.
In the daily life, we face problems. A lot of problems are within our capability to solve them and the rest is out of our hand.
For unsolved problems, there are two ways in seeing them :
they won’t make any hindrance for future improvement and we can live together with them, or
the problem must be solved otherwise it will create more problems and finally turns into a disaster.

Therefore, nowadays, in management courses, there’s a special topic discussing about networking. Even it boils down to a phrase: It is not what you know, but WHO you know, and especially in the developing country, networking is playing a very important part in achieving success in business.
The capability and mindset to expand one’s network and find alternative solutions, I would call it Resourceful rather than Creativity (something real new and more individual) or Innovation (usually new idea to improve existing process, and more on team oriented).
Resourceful mindset as the result of the environment
All entrepreneurs are resourceful, they have an instant instinct where to find the best way to solve any problem and hindrance they face and keep driving forward, as if they do not solve the problem, their survival is at stake, while most bureaucrats to salary men are generally not so resourceful as their main mindset is to follow the rule, do not work outside the system, play safe, not doing anything wrong, even they do not solve the problem (so that they can keep their job). They still survive, as they are covered with a safety net which is called salary.
A rigid constrain organization culture also tends to generate unresourceful mindset, as the space for creativity thinking or brain storming are usually highly regulated, therefore a lot of huge giant company, because of its own successful organization and track record, gradually slow down and lack behind in the competition, and if not alert and change for the top management will bring those company into extinction
How to increase and generate a resourceful mindset
It starts from a positive mindset, build up a CAN DO attitude, if the mindset is NO, CAN’T DO then automatically our brain will switch off to find any alternative solution.
Create a self pressure of MUST DO with a limited time line, without pressure (too big safety net) people tend to lay back, postpone, finally not finding solution.
Think out of the “box”, with risk calculation.
Establish a good communication network across functions, more understanding of the other functions will automatically increase your resources in solving problem.
Be the expert in your field, keep learning, build network in your own professional world, such as attending and active in your profession association.
